Let me give you something to remember me by – I’ll try with all of my heart to make you smile.

Hello! I’m Ben. If you know me then it’s wonderful to talk to you again! If you don’t I hope that someday I’ll be able to know you. I am an artist by nature, a performer by craft, and a lover by instinct. I’ll be attending Emerson College in Boston as a Print Journalism major this fall while taking courses and lessons at the Boston Conservatory and participating in Boston University’s Marching Band.
As high school fades away I am left with the bitter taste of leadership in my mouth. Though high school leadership sounds like an entirely trivial concept, it taught me a lot about the nature of humans. The harder you work, the harder people expect you to work. The more you care, the more people expect you to care. No matter what you do, people will always search for the faults. No matter how hard you try, no one cares unless you’re helping him/her respectively. And no matter how much you love it, people will do their best to make sure that you can’t anymore. Yes, I’m jaded, but it’s important that I learned these lessons sooner than later. I’m taking a few steps back in college – I’m committing myself to me and what is right for me for a bit.
Until the fall however I’m in a state of transition it seems. Most of my life has revolved around music to this point – I’ve been playing piano since I was 5 years old and have since branched out into percussion, mostly mallet percussion (i.e. xylophones, marimbas, vibraphones, etc.) I practice for hours each day and I’d like to think it’s led me to achieve a few things to proud of. I am currently the youngest member of the Thayer Symphony Orchestra of Leominster, Massachusetts. I have been a member of the 2004 Division II World Champion Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps of Nashua, New Hampshire for two years. I recently performed as the lead mallet percussionist in the Central District of Massachusetts. I spent two years leading a 25-member wind ensemble through various performances to a high level of success. Really though, I’m just a music addict to the extreme – peruse my CD racks and you’ll find a little less than 600 different albums. From Judy Garland to Bush – rest assured, I’ve got it covered.
All life is a source of inspiration for me – whether to be spoken on the keys of the piano or written down to be shared by word. I absolutely love to write - I keep a steady journal and I’m constantly channeling my thoughts into poetry and music. I’m hoping to make a bit of a living writing about music when I get older. My dream job would be traveling around the country as Britney Spears’ pianist while writing about it for “Rolling Stone.” Haha, keep dreaming, right?
I get by with a little help from my friends, all of whom mean the world to me. I love to love – my heart is what forms so much of who I am. Perhaps I’d love to love you? Either way, I hope someday you remember me and you look back and smile. |
